The Maspalomas Temple: El Templo Ecuménico El Salvador

You can't miss the templo ecuménico in Playa del Inglés as it's right by the Kasbah and Plaza shopping centres; It looks like an escaped bit of the Sydney Opera House and is an international church.

Started in 1969 and opened in 1971, the Templo Ecuménico El Salvador opened its doors in January 1971. Along with it's characteristic upside-down boat design, it has several other funky features, including an altar made of an 11-ton rock and two beautiful stained-glass windows.

The templo is a multi-faith church with a number of different Christian denominations holding regular services, including the Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Anglican churches and regular Catholic masses.

The interior of the church is open for visits, but you can always visit during a service.
