Aquamarina beach in Gran Canaria

The tiny patch of sand called Aquamarina Beach isn't much to look at, but it's got a great swimming channel and a perfect lunch spot right next door.

Aquamarina Beach, also known as Dorado beach, is popular with Scandinavians snowbird tourists staying at nearby hotels like the Radisson Blu and Montemarina. While it's in a touristy area, this little scrap of sand is rarely crowded.

The beach itself is about 30 metres long and split in two with half the sand up on a terrace. The lower bit needs some fresh sand as it's a bit muddy these days.

Swimming from the beach is a pain as the water is shallow and the bottom muddy. It's best to get into the water from the platforms along the sides of the channel in front of the beach.

Aquamarina's sunbathing platforms, with steps down into the water, are the best thing about the beach. Local kids use the big one on the ocean side to jump into the water while the small ones by the promenade are popular with tourists staying in the area.

Aquamarina beach is between Anfi and Patalavaca beaches and is easy to get to along the promenade. The top part of the beach has sunbeds and loungers.

There are no public toilets in the area; most people use the bar or their hotel facilities. You get a choice of two restaurants with views of the sand.

Gran Canaria Tip: What Are The Best Car Hire Companies?

This is one of the most common questions we get in our Facebook Group (with over 30,000 members) and fortunately, it is an easy one to answer. The Gran Canaria Info admin team and the fans in our Facebook group agree...

The best car hire companies in Gran Canaria are local ones with desk at the airport and honest pricing policies that don't have any hidden insurance or fuel deposit costs. They just rent you a good car at a good price with no fuss at all.

We recommend Mr Car Hire Gran Canaria (Nick); an idependent car rental professional who works with all the main local rental companies in Gran Canaria. This means that he can always find you a good deal.

Mr Car Hire also offers fully comprehensive insurance on all car rental, three-day bookings, and delively of your car right to your door anywhere in Gran Canaria.

We advise all Gran Canaria visitors to avoid booking the cheapest possible car on generic car rental websites or via their flight company because you often end up paying large deposits, extra fuel and insurance costs and all kinds of other costs once you arrive to pick up your car at the airport.
