East Coast Blonde: Aguadulce Beach

Golden Aguadulce beach is the star of Gran Canaria's east coast Golden Aguadulce beach is the star of Gran Canaria's east coast

Agualdulce is the prettiest beach on Gran Canaria's east coast and one of the island's best small beaches.

With 200 metres of golden sand, clear turquoise water and a sand dune behind it, Aguadulce in Telde is gorgeous. It's rarely crowded and often you have it to yourself; many people avoid it because it has a reputation for being windy. It can be, but it's worth checking because, on the right day, it's a stunning beach.

Aguadulce is right next to Tufia village and beach on the east coast. Take the El Goro exit if you're driving north from the resorts and then the first exit at the roundabout. Follow the road to Tufia and park at the end of the road by the village. Walk north and you'll see the beach within a minute.

This beach has no facilities apart from bins and even Tufia has no public toilets and only an occasional chiringuito snack bar. The whole area is a nature reserve and building is forbidden. Tufia itself is fighting a battle for its existence as it was built illegally. Public transport doesn't run to Tufia.

Aguadulce is nudist and the bare-bottom brigade hang out at the east end of the beach by the little sandstone cliff.

Las Olas: Puerto Rico's Other Shopping Centre

Everyone who visits Puerto Rico knows the giant Puerto Rico shopping centre and the Europa Centre high up on west hill. However, there's a third Puerto Rico centre and it's home to a cluster of good restaurants.
